Saints 0 Coventry 0

By: Mike | March 24th, 2008

There never looked like being a winner in a poor game between two sides short on confidence and creativity. Stern John had Saints’ best chance but was denied by Kasper Schmeichel from close range. Towards the end Richard Wright, the on-loan keeper making his first Saints appearance, made a good save to deny Coventry a late winner.

Bradley Wright-Phillips did have a goal ruled out for offside after replacing an obviously rusty Vincent Pericard but there has to be a question mark over Nigel Pearson’s subsitutions (or lack thereof). Our two most promising players, Adam Hammill and Andrew Surman, spent the entire ninety minutes on the bench while Mario Licka tired late on and Viarfara struggled out of position on the right.

Saints can at least take the positives of not losing such a vital game as well as the performances of Jason Euell (his best in a Saints shirt, not that there’s much competition) and Richard Wright. But it puts more pressure on Saints to get points away from home if we can’t beat teams around us at St. Marys.
