The Bright Side of Relegation
By: Martin | July 6th, 2009This is my first post for The Offside and I am looking forward to covering the Saints. I have been a Southampton supporter ever since I first watched Le Tissier work his magic when I was a kid.

And we have a lot to talk about.
I’ve always tried to have a positive outlook on both life and football. Even when the Saints were relegated from the Premiership years ago, I kept assuring myself in my mind we would be back in the top flight in a season or two.
But things have certainly gone downhill for the Saints, relegation to League 1 and a nasty 10 point penalty that I have no optimistic view of. Not to mention the mess of the club’s ownership problems.
The club has recently also seen the loss of key players in Surman, McGoldrick and Svennson. Thankfully, Stern John is returning to the club along with coach Mark Wotte. Thank God, at least having a stable manager through this will help. However, the Saints still have a lot of work to do to turn this around.
As the saying goes, it’s always darkest before the dawn and I can only hope this is a new beginning for the Saints.
